The Sky Is Not The Limit
NASA Astronaut Chris Hadfield, is a modern day explorer. This farm boy has always had a passion for flying – but for him the sky is not the limit! It was in June of 1992 that Chris was first selected from a field of 5330 applicants to become one of a chosen few astronauts. He was assigned to Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas where eventually Hadfield became NASA’a Chief CapCom, the voice of Mission Control to Astronauts in orbit for 25 shuttle missions. A veteran of two space shuttle missions, in 2001, Chris Hadfield installed the next-generation Canadarm 2 to the International Space Station during Shuttle Mission STS-100.
In November 2012, Chris returned to space aboard a Russian Soyuz spacecraft to the International Space Station (ISS) where he lived and worked for six months as part of the crew of Expedition 34/35. In March 2013, he became the Commander of the International Space Station during the second portion of his 146 day stay in space. He along with five other astronauts helped to run dozens of scientific experiments dealing with the impact of low gravity on human biology. During the mission, Chris gained media popularity by chronicling life aboard the space station. From taking extraordinary pictures of the earth, to playing his guitar and recording music in space, Chris developed a huge worldwide social media following (currently 1.38 million Twitter followers), a rare accomplishment for someone not in the entertainment field. Chris has truly renewed the public’s fascination for space exploration.
